About the Business
The Family Business was started in 1951 by Eddie Thomas and in those early days traded as Lasham Grass Drying Company. As the name suggests the principal activity was drying grass to produce grass meal which was used in the animal feed compounding trade.
As this was a very seasonal business, Eddie introduced farming and transport activities to provide all round employment for staff and a better balanced and less seasonal business. Grass meal production ceased in 1963 when other products become more widely available and could offer better value to the trade.
Mike Thomas joined the family business in 1968 and the company continued to develop the farming and road haulage interests and grew steadily. In the mid 70's the company took the opportunity to build and manage a warehouse on their premises at Lasham, and farming ceased because it was incompatible with the warehousing activities.
